I had read that Archer's book "The Long Thaw" was balanced, and since it is reasonable short and non-expensive, I bought this book along with two other books (Chris Mooney's "Storm World" and Farmer and The long thaw book "Climate Change Science: A Modern Synthesis").

The book turned out to be a disappointment/5(51). A Long Thaw is a narrative about families, about secrets and lies, about guilt and forgiveness. It is a thoughtful presentation of the difficulties every individual can encounter, growing and ripening. I admire the author for her delving into this sensitive area.

4/4(39). The Long Thaw, overall, is a compact book stuffed with many concepts, theories, and predictions that initiate understanding to the broad topic of climate change.

Archers scientific writing was easy to follow and provided many metaphors like kitchen sinks to help explain CO2 in the atmosphere and heat energy budget (Archer, 83).4/5. The Long Thaw presents a long-term perspective on anthropogenic global warming, looking past the short-term view that dominates debates.

In it David Archer explains the working of the carbon cycle, explores the climates of the past, and uses those as a guide to the future. A Long Thaw is a rich, nuanced story about something universal: the attempt to be happy with ourselves and hopefully, with someone else.

A big-hearted and deep-thinking novel about two young women navigating the Katie O’Rourke writes brilliantly about the craggy landscape of young adulthood/5. David Archer’s The Long Thaw may just have the best symbolic cover graphic of any recent book on climate The long thaw book a human fingerprint, 90% submerged in true iceberg fashion, beneath a cloudy sky.

One scarcely needs the subtitle—How Humans Are Changing The NextYears Of Earth’s Climate. Archer, an oceanographer and professor of geophysical Reviews: The Long Thaw Book Description: If you think that global warming means slightly hotter weather and a modest rise in sea levels that will persist only so long as fossil fuels hold out (or until we decide to stop burning them), think again.

The Long Thaw looks at climate effects beyond the twenty-first century, and its focus on the long-term carbon cycle, rather than just climate change, is unique."—Jeffrey T.

Kiehl, National Center for Atmospheric Research "A great book. The Long Thaw Book Description: The human impact on Earth's climate is often treated as a hundred-year issue lasting as far into the future asthe year in which most climate projections cease.

"The Long Thaw is written for anyone who wishes to know what cutting-edge science tells us about the modern issue of global warming and its effects on the pathways of atmospheric chemistry, as well as global and regional temperatures, rainfall, sea level, Arctic sea-ice coverage, melting of the continental ice sheets, cyclonic storm frequency.

In The Long Thaw, David Archer predicts that if we continue to emit carbon dioxide we may eventually cancel the next ice age and raise the oceans by 50 meters. A human-driven, planet-wide thaw has already begun, and will continue to impact Earth’s climate and sea level for hundreds of thousands of years.

The long-term prognosis. Chapter Sea Level in the Deep Future. If the past is the key to the future, we have the capacity to raise sea level by 50 meters, eventually. Chapter Orbits, CO2, and the Next Ice Age. Interplay between orbital and CO2 climate forcings.
